EMN Conference 2015 - 30 years of the Schengen Agreement - The future of Schengen: challenges and opportunities

07-10-2015 - Maison du Savoir

Thirty years ago, the cooperation between several EU Member States resulted in the Schengen Agreement. Today, almost all Member States, as well as some non-EU States are party to the border-free Schengen area. Freedom of movement brings both benefits and risks that have to be managed. Migration is a cross-cutting issue, involving different policy areas and actors. The conference will take stock of where we are today and discuss the developments and perspectives of ‘Schengen’ regarding border management and the challenges of irregular migration. It also aims to deliver ideas which could be fed into future policy debates at international, EU and national levels.

The exhibition NOWHERE PEOPLE is a stunning 10-year exploration by the award-winning photographer Greg Constantine into the lives of individuals and communities in Europe and around the world who have been denied or stripped of their nationality and who are stateless.
