The Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will be in Brussels on Friday, 27 November 2015 to chair the EU " Foreign Affairs Council " - European Union Trade.
The meeting is part of preparations for the 10 th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO ) which will be held in Nairobi from 15 to 18 December 2015. The ministers will discuss the strategy to follow, especially regarding the results that could be achieved, particularly on issues related to development, export competition as well as transparency. The ministers will also discuss priorities for the post-Nairobi negotiations.
In the presence of the European Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmström, the ministers will focus more on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the United States (TTIP /PTCI). Discussions will take stock of the state of negotiations with the US partner and enhance transparency within the framework of these negotiations.
The 28 EU ministers will then discuss the European Union's trade negotiations with the Mercosur countries, namely Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela, and with the countries of Asia, including Japan, and a number of ASEAN countries, such as Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Council will finally review the trilateral discussions between the EU, Russia and Ukraine, and relations between the EU and China. In the presence of the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, the ministers will discuss EU-China relations in trade, policy and strategic areas.
