On 25 October 2015, Jean Asselborn will represent the Luxembourg Presidency at the extraordinary meeting on the migrant crisis in Eastern Europe and along the Balkans route

The Luxembourg Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Minister for Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, will participate in the extraordinary meeting on the migrant crisis in Eastern Europe and along the Balkans route, which will be held in Brussels on 25 October 2015, in order to represent the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

The extraordinary meeting, convened by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will bring together the Heads of State or Government of Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU and representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) and Frontex.

The meeting will offer the opportunity to study the management of the migrant crisis in order to define operational conclusions which might be implemented immediately. Minister Asselborn will provide information about the work of the "Justice and Home Affairs" Council, which he currently chairs, and will offer an overview of the situation on the ground following his recent trips to Italy and Greece alongside the European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Dimitris Avramopoulos.
