On 7 October 2015, the Luxembourg Presidency of Council of the European Union will host the first informal meeting of Ministers for Transport dedicated exclusively to cycling as a transport mode.
The Ministers of EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states will discuss how the EU and Member States can encourage and support an increase in cycling’s mode share for the transport of people and goods. The Luxembourg Presidency will stress the efficiency of cycling as a transport mode, as well as cycling’s social, environmental and economic benefits in the European Union.
Ministers and the European Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Violeta Bulc, will hear presentations by Jan Gehl, architect and author, and by Mikael Colville Andersen, urban designer. Participants will have the opportunity to try different types of bicycles on a cycling circuit inside the conference centre proper. After the meeting, they will be invited to join Andy Schleck, Luxembourgish winner of the Tour de France 2010, for a leisurely bike ride to the official dinner in the historic centre of Luxembourg City.
