The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, will chair the session devoted to migration of the European Union's Justice and Home Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Thursday 8 October 2015.
The Council will discuss the future management of EU external borders. The Council will then focus on the effective implementation of the return and readmission policy and will adopt conclusions in that regard. By looking at the different means available to the EU to respond to the migration crisis, Ministers will then review the implementation of crisis measures concerning the relocation of refugees in the EU following the decision adopted at the extraordinary JHA Council on 14 September 2015. The Council will also address the European visa policy.
In the presence of the Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Romain Schneider, the Council will then focus on the connection between development and migration policies.
A High Level Conference on the Eastern Mediterranean - Western Balkans route will take place in the margins of the JHA Council and will be co-chaired by Jean Asselborn and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini. It will focus on improved management of migratory flows through the Western Balkans and the Middle East.
