    Meeting between Fernand Etgen, President of the Council of Ministers for Agriculture of the European Union, and Stéphane Le Foll, French minister of Agriculture

    The current President of the Agriculture Council, the Luxembourg Minister Fernand Etgen, met the French Minister of Agriculture Stéphane Le Foll in Paris on 30 July 2015 to discuss the difficulties faced by the diary, beef and pork sectors in France and in the majority of European regions.

    JHA Council - Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs reach an agreement on the relocation mechanism for asylum seekers

    At an extraordinary Council meeting on 20 July 2015, chaired by Jean Asselborn, the Luxembourg Minister for Immigration and Asylum, the Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) of the EU Member States reached consensus on the distribution of asylum seekers in the Member States. The Ministers adopted a general approach for 32,256 refugees to be welcomed under the temporary relocation procedure which was proposed by the European Commission in its Agenda on Migration in May 2015. The procedure provides for the relocation of 40,000 migrants eligible for refugee status who are currently in Greece and Italy. Furthermore, the Ministers adopted the conclusions which anticipate the resettlement of 22,504 refugees from outside European territory.

    The Ecofin Council – The ministers discuss the priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency, adopt the country-specific recommendations and discuss the first stages of the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union

    The finance ministers of the Member States of the European Union (EU) met in Brussels on 14 July 2015, to attend the first formal meeting of the "Economic and Financial Affairs" Council (Ecofin) under the Luxembourg Presidency. The ministers then concluded the 2015 European Semester process by adopting the country-specific recommendations and had an initial exchange concerning the five presidents' report on the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). The Luxembourg Minister of Finance and President of the Ecofin Council, Pierre Gramegna, also presented the work programme of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council.

    Chaired by the Luxembourg Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection, Fernand Etgen, the meeting of the Agriculture Council of 13 July 2015 in Brussels focused on the Commission's proposal on GMOs, presenting the priorities and the work programmeof the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council for the next six months, the state of play of the evaluation of the school fruit, vegetables and milk schemes, and the impact of the import ban on EU agricultural products imposed by Russia.
